If you’ve had a baby, or know someone who’s had a baby, you’ve likely been introduced to Sophie the Giraffe. Some things that were never on your radar suddenly are EVERYWHERE, and Sophie is one of them. Sophie is a natural rubber teether that has achieved a cult following. Babies can’t seem to get enough. According to Sophie herself, they attribute it to Sophie being soft and chewy all over and her shape that allows babies to teeth their back molars for early and late stage teething. All that’s well and good, but I just can’t get over her eyes. Go look then come back. Now you’re equally haunted.
Thus spurred the hunt to find:
1) a similarly loved, all natural rubber teether
2) around Sophie’s price point of $25
3) with a non-uniform body shape to satisfy the different teething stages
4) that didn’t give me a killer doll feeling
I was thrilled to find so many cute Sophie the Giraffe Alternatives! Now I try to pick one of these to match a baby’s nursery theme as a key part of baby shower gifts since these teethers are so popular. (Which reminds me- would you be interested in seeing a realistic baby registry? We had a few surprise favorites, disliked some ‘must haves’, and found other items we needed throughout that first year we never saw on other registries.)
There were several brands that repeatedly stood out like Tikiri Toys, Little Llama, and Konges Sløjd, so if one of these animals don’t call out to you, check out those brands directly to see what other animals they have!
Other great teether options that aren’t as cute but just as effective are these teether tubes and Frida Baby Not-Too-Cold-to-Hold BPA-Free Silicone Teether. The Frida Baby one was essential for us when Cade’s teeth would start to break through. That and infant Motrin. Other parents swear by these frozen food teether pops, but they were never a favorite for us.
