Life -  Self Care -  Valentine's Day

Love Thy Self | 9 Ideas for a Self Care Valentine’s Day

Self Care Valentine's Day

Valentine’s, galentine’s, palentine’s- that’s a lot of love to celebrate! But are you setting aside time to show yourself some love too? Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to indulge in some self care and these ideas will help you create little moments throughout the day to pause and enjoy your own company.

I like to loosely follow this routine for any kind of change moment in my life (birthdays, new years, new job) to check in with myself mentally, physically, and emotionally and hit the energy reset.

Self Care Valentine's Day

Morning

Drink Yo Water

The number one self-care habit you should form is to stay hydrated! (and use sunscreen, and eat leafy greens, etc…). Treat yourself like your at a spa and upgrade your bottle with infused waters.

Ease Into the Day

Nothing is better for a gentle mind-body connection than some light yoga.

I’ve fallen off the wagon since moving back to Florida, but I use to love following Yoga with Adriene. She has the most calming voice and breaks down 10-30 minute sessions with varying difficulty. Yoga in the morning will help you fall into a more relaxed sleep later too!

Try a New Look

You’re hydrated, you’re awake, you’re ready to experiment with a new look! A new hairstyle or lipstick shade is an easy way to shake up your routine.

Get a Jump Start on Dinner

While I like cooking, a day of pure pampering excludes any kind of dinner prep & cleanup right after work. Instead, get a comfort crockpot recipe going before you leave so you can fall right back into a clear headspace once your home.

Afternoon

Treat Yourself to a Lunch Date…

Dinner reservations will be booked to kingdom come, so why not use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to try out that new lunch place by work? It’ll be easier to snag a table or order for one and you get to explore outside of your bubble.

…And Maybe Some Flowers

Just having flowers at home can boost your mood. I love snagging seasonal $4 mini bouquet from Trader Joe’s as a pick-me-up!

Self Care Valentine's Day

Evening

Soak it In

You all know how much we love bath bombs! There’s no better way for aromatherapy and warming up- especially with some of you coming out of the polar vortex.

Care About Skincare

Break out those fancy face masks you’ve been saving for a special occasion- this is it! Go full Korean 10-step for complete indulgence. (If you’re looking for recs, here are some of my favorites)

Write Yourself a Love Note

Crack open that gratitude or meditation journal and spend today focusing on reasons why you love yourself. List out things you’ve done that you are proud of, progress on personal goals, anything that makes you realize how awesome you are.

2018 was a rough year, so while this list might have been written with Valentine’s Day, I’m trying to be more mindful and make a lot of these self-care habits going forward. I’d love to know-

How do you practice self-care?

Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my favorite parts from the #haileyhome condo. There Michael had his desk shoved in the corner of our small bedroom. As much as I wanted a light and airy feel, the desk always felt unintentionally “floaty”. With just paint and shelves, his desk went from an afterthought to a defined workspace with it’s own voice that felt distinct yet still a part of the room.

In our current house, I’m looking back at this project since next on my list will be Michael’s office! Michael inspired me with his 5 year anniversary gift to me (a nice furniture piece- he definitely knows me ☺️) so my gift to him will be wood shelves for his new office, plus a little space makeover.

Excited to take on a small project while the kitchen reno is underway. It’ll feel nice to feel project progress somewhere and get hands on for the first time since Cade arrived ☺️

It’s worth the space it takes up though. Capturing his growth and personality feels like the greatest privilege. I can’t believe there were only 3 weeks between his newborn and 1 month photos 🥲

I’ll take any and all inducing tips 😅

I’ve been auditioning different rooms around the new house for my studio space. Some have great storage, some have better natural light, but NONE have over headlight lighting. I didn’t think much of it until I tried crafting after work and realized, dang, I really can’t see anything 😅. I tried to make it work with different table lamps, photography lighting, even grow lights (spoiler: do not attempt unless you like being blinded). It wasn’t great. I figured I’d eventually get a proper crafting light, but wasn’t thrilled with the limited, and frankly ugly, options.

I bet you picked up on this from the photo, but I finally found THE solution. @cricut just released their Cricut Bright 360 task lamps and it’s everything I could have ever dreamed of! I’ve been putting this lamp through its paces for a few weeks with nesting DIYs and will have a full review on the blog soon!
