This Christmas, Cade is getting a play kitchen! He’s at the age where he wants to copy everything mom and dad do and has started showing interest in imaginative play. Our plan is to set up this kitchen on Christmas Eve and let him ‘unwrap’ a few accessories as he discovers the different areas in the kitchen. A baking sheet with holiday cookies in the oven… A shelf full of utensils… I’m obsessed with miniature items, so this gift idea sent me down a long, long rabbit hole and culminated in this play kitchen gift guide. It was a good way of keeping my own list organized 😉
When searching for play kitchen accessories, I tried to find items that were:
- Made with high-quality materials
- Mimicked their real counterparts in look AND feel (ex. fully rounded bottles instead of flat bottle cut-outs)
- Had ingredient components to allow for more play (ex. this PlanToys sushi set lets you assemble the sushi vs having them be one object)
- A mix of food groups and ethnic representation across the separate sets (if you have any recs for more diverse play food, please let me know so I can add them!)
I prefer velcro play food over magnetic for a more realistic cutting effect, but if you have little ones that are still putting toys in their mouths, absolutely avoid any magnetic sets to decrease swallowing risk.
Some of my favorite brands for quality toys are Janod, PlanToys, Melissa & Doug, and Tender Leaf. For Cade, I’m particularly excited about the eggs you can ‘crack open’, the toaster that actually pops up, and the mixer with realistic dough he can knead. I might be in his kitchen more than him making those adorable Christmas cookies…
Hope you and your littles enjoyed this play kitchen gift guide!
