Mother’s Day is a great excuse to invite celebration into our stay-at-home worlds. With all of us craving quality time with loved ones, what if we took advantage of the situation and got a little creative with gift giving this year? These gift ideas are tied to experiences you can share with your mom, yes, remotely!
Themed Zoom Date Gift Boxes
More than gifts, moms just want to spend time with us. A traditional Mother’s Day phone call is fine and dandy, but let’s dial it up with gift ideas that can become shared experiences even while apart. Just send one of these boxes to mom, keep one for yourself, and set up a Zoom date to do these together.
Self Care Box
Get together some of mom’s favorite self-care goodies and schedule a remote spa date. You can theme it around skincare, manicures, aromatherapy– anything that will bring ultimate relaxation. You both need this.
Craft Kit
There are tons of adult craft kits on Etsy or you can pick your favorite DIY and build your own! I recently sent a painting kit to a friend as we had our own sips and painting night over Zoom. Besides hours of a fun way of catching up, now we both have finished pieces to display to remind us of the date too!
Tea Time
The DIY rattan teabox continues to be one of our most popular DIYs so I’m going out on a limb here to say you and your mom probably enjoy tea? DIY (or buy) a tea box and fill it with her favorites. Coordinate with a local bakery to do pastry drop off, and enjoy a socially distance high tea.
Boredom Busters
Puzzles + Games
My mom has always been into puzzles, but lately she’s cranking through 1 a week! Puzzles are hitting a new high and there are some truly beautiful, modern options. I have my eye on InnerPiece, Jiggy, Areaware, and Piecework to send her way. (This idea might work better if you have a local game store that is doing pickup/delivery. All the popular puzzle companies are selling out.)
Education Subscriptions
This idea is straight from my mom! She mentioned how now is the perfect time to take a MasterClass or listen to audiobooks- some way to keep her brain active in between jigsaw puzzling.
Upgraded Quarantine Hobbies
Did your mom pick up any new hobbies? Upgrade her tools or help build out her arsenal! If she’s gotten into bread making, maybe look at handmade proofing baskets or lames. Interested in loom weaving? 100% wool roving is stunning.
Shared 30 Day Challenges
Is your mom competitive or just likes having an accountability partner? Take on a shared challenge to experience together.
Mindfulness Journaling
Send a journal, keep a journal. I like using journals with mindfulness prompts to help reshape how I’m perceiving a situation which feels even more important now.
Workout Routine
My mom is a big yoga fan and misses her classes. Let’s keep the healthy habits going and become a class of 2! If you’d like to include a physical gift, send over equipment she’ll need for the challenge. (We’re always fans of Adriene’s 30-day yoga challenges and Society6’s yoga mats.
Plant Parenthood
This one’s a little silly, but it combines plants and friendly competition so 👍. Send your mom a plant and buy yourself the same one. Whoever keeps the plant the healthiest by the end of quarantine is treated to a coffee or lunch date when everything opens back up!
