Minimalist Nail Art: The Wave

Minimalist Nail Art: The Wave

This year I’ve been obsessed with vector wave patterns- they’re the perfect in between of playful, clean, & minimal. Eventually I want to play around with crazy Memphis Movement patterns on a large canvas, but for now I can wave hello to the trend with this mani design.

The main secret behind this design is using Washi tape for custom nail stencils.  The paper tape is especially good at adhering to base polish without peeling it off. And it’s incredibly easy to cut out designs.

You will need:
Washi tape
small scissors (or exacto blade)
base color, top color, and top coat

Apply base color and let completely dry. I used Sinful Colors in “Snow Me White”  (do NOT recommend, very thin coverage but thick application).

Once the base color is dry, cut out a wave pattern in the tape. The beauty of the wave is getting two usable pattern sides from the tape. Firmly press tape onto nails and paint over with top color (I used Sally Hansen: Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in “Mint Sorbet“). DO NOT wait until the top color is dry to peel off the tape- it will rip the color completely off. Seal with top coat once dry.
