I truly didn’t realize citrus was a winter treat until moving to Chicago. In Florida, oranges meant summertime orange Julius, fruit salad picnics, and Mimosas. The bright, sweet smell is so refreshing during the summertime that I just want to bathe in it. And now I can 🍊
I used the same base recipe as the holiday drink bath bombs but punched up the essential oil amount and switched coconut oil for jojoba. I found that coconut oil overpowered the jasmine. Plus it gave the bath bombs just a smidge of nice coloring.
You’ll Need
1 1/2 c baking soda
1 c citric acid
1 c cornstarch
1 c Epsom salt
1 tsp jasmine absolute
2 tsp sweet orange essential oil
4 1/2 tsp jojoba oil
3 tsp water
bath bomb molds
I used plastic ornament halves the first time I made bath bombs. Those broke somewhere between the move from Chicago to Florida, so I needed new ones. Amazon has a few metal ones with good reviews, but I found these ‘plastic treat domes‘ at Michaels and they worked perfectly!
Whisk the baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, & Epsom salt together until evenly mixed. In a separate container, mix the jasmine & sweet orange essential oils, jojoba oil, & water.
Slowly incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry mix, whisking the whole time. It’s important to take your time- go too fast and bath bomb will activate and you’ll be left with a puddle. A nice smelling puddle, but still.
Your bath bomb mix should have the consistency of wet sand. If you feel the mixture is too dry, slowly add more water, if it’s too wet add more cornstarch. Humidity will play a large factor in getting the right consistency. I made these outside in Florida in June, so I needed slightly more cornstarch than when I made the winter bath bombs in Chicago.
I used different molds from my last batch and nailed down a new method. Overpack each half and press together. Slowly try to twist the molds off the bath bomb, one side at a time. If your mixture is correct, the molds will release. You can leave one mold side on while it dries if you find your bath bombs splitting.
Let the bath bombs dry for 24 hrs.
What are you’re favorite ways to relax during the summer?
