11 Large, Neutral Area Rugs under $400

Who wants to help pick a rug for our living room! The townhouse makeover saga continues. The last roundup I did was in search of the perfect round table (which had been tabled until after the kitchen reno), but now I’m searching for a large, neutral rug to ground the main living space. Our downstairs is one long, skinny rectangle that we’re trying to visually break up into a defined entryway, living room, & dining room. A nice big rug should do the trick and keep our furniture from flying across the tile.

It just needs to be 4 things: 1) comfortable 2) large enough to span the “living room” 3) neutral enough to go with the unfinished/undetermined dining room and our green mid-century mod couch 4) ideally not cost a whole savings account.

I am so thankful major retailers have stepped up their rug game- I remember looking for large, cheap rugs in college and couldn’t find anything that wasn’t either neon bright or dingy grey. I’m particularly impressed with nuLOOM’s rugs! A lot of those are featured as they got great reviews and come in multiple sizes.

And to make this a fair comparison between prices, I tried to list the prices for rug sizes closest to 8×10. Some of rugs only go up to 5×7, but the majority of them can be ordered in larger sizes.

11 Large, Neutral Area Rugs under $400 Large Neutral Area Rugs

1. Urban Outfitters 5×7 $189
2. nuLOOM 7’10″x10 $250
3. Lorena Canals 5’7″ x 8″ $350
4. nuLOOM 8×10 $175
5. nuLOOM 8×10 $289
6. AllModern 7’10” x 10’3″ $250
7. Target 7×10 $300
8. World Market 6×9 $400
9. Home Depot 8×10 $182
10. Urban Outfitters 5×7 $350
11. nuLOOM 8×10 $286

I’m leaning 2 or 3, but what do you guys think? I’ll have a pic of our living room up on Instagram (and add it here once I can shoot this weekend) to get your votes.

I’m also thinking 11 would be a perfect layering base and I’m tempted to grab 8 for our bedroom.

Right? I wanted to order a few and test in the space, but they all charge return shipping. Doesn’t seem worth it on a cheaper rug so I need to poll the crowd haha.

6 feels so classic even though it’s bohemian- definitely a contender while I try to balance modern casual!

I love this roundup! FINDING A RUG THAT’S PERFECT AND AFFORDABLE IS SOOOO HARD!

But I Love what you’ve found! I think my husband would rather all rugs be $100… and I’m like, nope, that’s not how this works. Nice looking rugs that are considered affordable are definitely in the $200-$400 range.

I love number 1! I always love a little bit of blush in most things. 🙂

Ahaha, I had the same debate with my husband! I got him on board by making him touch a $100 rug and told him to imagine walking on that everyday. He changed his mind 🙂

Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my favorite parts from the #haileyhome condo. There Michael had his desk shoved in the corner of our small bedroom. As much as I wanted a light and airy feel, the desk always felt unintentionally “floaty”. With just paint and shelves, his desk went from an afterthought to a defined workspace with it’s own voice that felt distinct yet still a part of the room.

In our current house, I’m looking back at this project since next on my list will be Michael’s office! Michael inspired me with his 5 year anniversary gift to me (a nice furniture piece- he definitely knows me ☺️) so my gift to him will be wood shelves for his new office, plus a little space makeover.

Excited to take on a small project while the kitchen reno is underway. It’ll feel nice to feel project progress somewhere and get hands on for the first time since Cade arrived ☺️

It’s worth the space it takes up though. Capturing his growth and personality feels like the greatest privilege. I can’t believe there were only 3 weeks between his newborn and 1 month photos 🥲

I’ve been auditioning different rooms around the new house for my studio space. Some have great storage, some have better natural light, but NONE have over headlight lighting. I didn’t think much of it until I tried crafting after work and realized, dang, I really can’t see anything 😅. I tried to make it work with different table lamps, photography lighting, even grow lights (spoiler: do not attempt unless you like being blinded). It wasn’t great. I figured I’d eventually get a proper crafting light, but wasn’t thrilled with the limited, and frankly ugly, options.

I bet you picked up on this from the photo, but I finally found THE solution. @cricut just released their Cricut Bright 360 task lamps and it’s everything I could have ever dreamed of! I’ve been putting this lamp through its paces for a few weeks with nesting DIYs and will have a full review on the blog soon!
