ICP: Buzz Killer Espresso Review

Buzz Killer Espresso Review
Buzz Killer Espresso Review

I’m sorry Oak Park, but there’s a new Park in my life- I’m quickly falling for Wicker Park. Adorable shops & cozy cafes have stolen my heart. Last ICP review was for another Wicker Park spot, Bru Cafe, and I had debated doubling down cafes on the same day (though Buzz is technically Bucktown, Bru & Buzz are only a 10 minute walk from each other). I’m glad I gave Buzz: Killer Espresso it’s own day though. This spot has fast passed it’s way to 1st place.

If you’re new to the blog or Indie Coffee Passport, hop on over to this post to see what it is, how it works, and how you can start your own coffee adventure.

Buzz Killer Espresso Review

Buzz: Killer Espresso hit everything I want in a coffee shop: It’s a well thought out space with plenty of natural light, divided areas for silent work or socializing, music at just the right background noise level, & of course great coffee with the perfect pastries to compliment it.

Unlike a lot of the ICP cafes, they don’t try to be everything. Yes, there is still wifi, but their focus is more on good coffee and less “everything but the kitchen sink”. Their baked goods are from Vanille– a great French bakery that I now need to hunt down. If you’re doing ICP, these are the drinks your passport can get you.

  1. Black Diamond Pour Over
  2. Cold Brew
  3. Espresso Shot
  4. Small Latter
  5. Tea

Buzz Killer Espresso Review

What I had:
Black Diamond Pour
Apricot Cookie
Almond Cookie

The pour over was incredibly smooth and the perfect temperature. One of my biggest gripes with coffee houses is how their brews cool too quickly after being served. Coffee makers, please explain how this happens. Is it the cup the coffee is served in? The brewing temperature?

Whatever the technique, Buzz: Killer Espresso has it down pat. A lot of people compare it to Wormhole, another spot in Wicker Park, so I might have to do a cross comparison review later.

Next time:
I’ll get some loose leaf tea (they serve it in clear teapots!) & one of every pastry.

Best for:
Everything. Stop by while shopping in the area or make it a study staple.

TL;DR:
5/5 stars coffee
5/5 baked goods
5/5 coziness

Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my favorite parts from the #haileyhome condo. There Michael had his desk shoved in the corner of our small bedroom. As much as I wanted a light and airy feel, the desk always felt unintentionally “floaty”. With just paint and shelves, his desk went from an afterthought to a defined workspace with it’s own voice that felt distinct yet still a part of the room.

In our current house, I’m looking back at this project since next on my list will be Michael’s office! Michael inspired me with his 5 year anniversary gift to me (a nice furniture piece- he definitely knows me ☺️) so my gift to him will be wood shelves for his new office, plus a little space makeover.

Excited to take on a small project while the kitchen reno is underway. It’ll feel nice to feel project progress somewhere and get hands on for the first time since Cade arrived ☺️

It’s worth the space it takes up though. Capturing his growth and personality feels like the greatest privilege. I can’t believe there were only 3 weeks between his newborn and 1 month photos 🥲

I’ll take any and all inducing tips 😅

I’ve been auditioning different rooms around the new house for my studio space. Some have great storage, some have better natural light, but NONE have over headlight lighting. I didn’t think much of it until I tried crafting after work and realized, dang, I really can’t see anything 😅. I tried to make it work with different table lamps, photography lighting, even grow lights (spoiler: do not attempt unless you like being blinded). It wasn’t great. I figured I’d eventually get a proper crafting light, but wasn’t thrilled with the limited, and frankly ugly, options.

I bet you picked up on this from the photo, but I finally found THE solution. @cricut just released their Cricut Bright 360 task lamps and it’s everything I could have ever dreamed of! I’ve been putting this lamp through its paces for a few weeks with nesting DIYs and will have a full review on the blog soon!
