It’s the third costume in our Inspiring Women Halloween costumes series! To recap, I started thinking of easy costume ideas you could pull together from closet pieces, which got me thinking about iconic outfits and the women behind them. So far we’ve done Claire Saffitz and Marie Kondo. This week is the Juicy genius herself, Doja Cat!
I’ve always been of fan of female rappers and lately it seems like there’s been a surge of incredible women, each bringing their own flavor. It was honestly hard to pick just one, and it came down to Doja or Lizzo for their endless body positivity, enthusiasm, and killer looks. Ultimately, I just had an easier time finding pieces for this one than any of Lizzo’s music videos but wanted to call out both women for being powerhouses!
Doja Cat’s music videos are always an explosion of color. It’s a space I don’t typically play in, so this was going to be fun! I did briefly consider her pink latex suit and aqua wig from “Down” as an excuse to buy a wig, but I’m thrilled with this fruity look and want to keep the jacket just to strut around the house in!
I had Michael play Juicy on repeat and danced around. It was probably the least self-conscious shoot I’ve had in a long time. Spirit of Doja, is that you?
This costume was inspired by Doja Cat’s Juicy Colors music video, because, let’s be real, this was much much easier to find pieces for than a full-body watermelon suit. Let’s break it down!
goggles | pink eyeshadow | pink hoops
pink choker | pink crop top| pink fluffy jacket | latex skirt
strawberry bag | chunky sneakers
I did have to alter the strawberry bag into a fanny pack with pliers to shorten the purse strap and used a ribbon on hand for the choker. While I can confidently say none of these pieces are in my usual rotation, it was fun to really dress up!
