Happy Holidays everyone! One of my favorite gifts to give & get are bath bombs. They smell amazing and leave your skin feeling so soft. Treat yourself or someone special to all the scents of the season with these holiday drink inspired bath bombs. Christmas music playing while they set makes them better, true story.
Base Recipe
1 1/2 c baking soda
1 c citric acid
1 c corn starch
1 c Epsom salt
4 1/2 tsp coconut oil
3 tsp water
To start, mix all your standard dry ingredients together. Separate equal parts into 3 different bowls. This will be about 1 1/2 cups per bowl. Now you can add the dry ingredients from whichever flavor you’re making.
In 3 separate containers, mix 1 1/2 tsps of coconut oil, 1 tsp water, and the liquid ingredients from your flavor of choice. Slowly drizzle the corresponding wet mixture into the dry, whisking the whole time. It’s very important to go slowly here- too fast and bath bomb will activate. Learned this the hard way when my first bath bomb slowly oozed for 3 hrs until it became a puddle.
Your finished mixture should have a consistency like wet sand, sticking together but can break apart. If you feel the mixture is too dry, slowly add more water. It’ll depend how much humidity is in the air when you’re making these guys. Place you bath bomb decorations in one side of the mold & start packing the mixture in tightly. Let them dry for 24 hrs, and they are ready for gifting or spa night!
Apple Cider
1 tsp apple fragrance oil
1/2 tsp sweet orange essential oil
1/2 tsp cinnamon oil
dash of nutmeg
dried orange zest for decoration (make sure it’s completely dried- the oil from the peel will activate the bath bomb)
Peppermint Hot Chocolate
1/2 tsp peppermint essential oil
1 tsp cacao powder
chocolate chunks for decoration
Eggnog
1/2 tsp vanilla fragrance (not vanilla extract. vanilla extract is made with alcohol and will not mix well)
1 tsp powdered milk
dash of nutmeg
vanilla bean for decoration
Important Notes: This recipe makes 3 large bath bombs. I used a large plastic ornament from the craft store as my mold, and it worked perfectly. You can find essential oils at your local wellness store (Whole Foods, Native Sun, etc.).
