I saw two COS necklaces online and fell in love with the minimal stone look. But for a total of $74+ shipping? Mm, hard pass. The necklaces themselves looked pretty basic and I still had granite clay left over from the Easter egg holders. So what would any good DIY-er do? Make them herself at a fraction of the cost!
Supplies
2 packets of polymer clay (granite + white)
circle cutter
knife
rolling pin
thin chain + corresponding jump links + eye hooks
pliers
long sewing needle + thread
E6000 (or super glue)
1| Start by rolling out your clay to about .5″ thickness. Using a knife or circle cutter, cut out your shapes. Don’t have a circle cutter? Download the circle & 2 piece necklace templates here. If you want the textured stone look, you can use the salt technique from the Easter egg holders diy.
2a| For the circle pendant, take a long sewing needle and work your way through the upper-middle part of the disc. Slowly turn the needle as you go, like a slow drill. Once you make it all the way through, tie your chain to the needle using thread. This is how you will get the seamless pendant look.
2b| For the 2 piece pendant, insert eye hooks in the location matching the picture.
3| Leave the chain and eyelets in the pieces while baking. Bake according to instructions, flipping halfway through. Make sure you circle pendant is centered on your chain- once it is completely cooled, the clay will shrink around the chain and not budge! Glue together your other two pieces. Add the chains with jumplinks and now you have 2 necklaces for under $15! Not bad for a crafternoon.
The best part about DIY is that you can make them custom for you. The original two piece had a gold bar and was much longer, but I liked how a shorter chain framed t-shirt necklines. Have fun playing with different colors & lengths!
