Some craft brands consistently knock it out of the park and make me want to spend all weekend in the studio. That’s why I am so excited to partner with Cricut again to test out their new mini machine, the Cricut Joy! This little powerhouse is half the size of their other machines with new features like cutting up to 20 continuous feet!!! And with their new smart vinyl, it’s even easier to start making since you don’t need to use a cutting mat!
When I was brainstorming projects for the Joy, my sister mentioned that she’d love some wall art for her new apartment. We started browsing floral designs in the Cricut Design Space and realized, wait, these a lot like the floral tapestries from Anthropologie. But cheaper and we can customize it however we like 😉
You’ll Need
medium weight canvas
paint
paintbrush
vinyl + Cricut Joy
cut file
wood dowel
rope
fabric glue
- Iron and cut your canvas to size, making sure to leave enough room at the top to fold over the dowel later.
- Paint your background color and let dry.
- Load the permanent vinyl and follow on-screen instructions to cut. Unload.
- Remove the parts you don’t want on the tapestry. Apply the transfer tape.
- Remove the vinyl from the backing paper and apply to the painted canvas. Rub the vinyl down and remove the transfer tape.
- Flip the canvas over and glue down the top over the dowel to create a little pocket. Tie the rope to the ends of the dowel to hang.
P.S. I’ve started adding video tutorials for DIYs over on Instagram if you want to see the Cricut Joy in action!
So far I’ve made labels, planters, and wall art with the Joy. I have a few other ideas I”m working on, but I’d love to know what you would make!
