Call for Alt Summit Votes, Help Us Represent the DIY Community!

How many posts this year are going to start with “whelp…”? This week’s post was going to be a “life lately” post, then I got the notification that voting already opened up for Alt Summit and had to quickly switch gears. Why? Because this year I’m pitching a DIY workshop and an art installation with a few good DIY blogger friends, and we need your help!

If you clicked in to vote, THANK YOU! And if you clicked in wondering what the heck Alt Summit is, be prepared for a cult-like, rave review.

Alt Summit is an annual conference & community for creative entrepreneurs & influencers. More broadly, it’s a magical combination of workshops, panels, talks, fashion shows, market place, and art installations that are meant to rejuvenate and inspire creative people and help each other grow our businesses. Last year was my first time attending and I got to meet so many bloggers I’ve admired from afar and got to talk to so many women in such a diverse range of fields and industries that my heart and head were exploding with information and inspiration.

Each year, in true community building spirit, Alt opens up calls for members to pitch ideas and lets the community vote for what they want to see. That’s where you come in!

This year I submitted 2 pitches with some blogger friends (that you might recognize from our Make It Challenges!) and we’d love for you to consider voting for our ideas so we can bring that maker spirit to Alt! You do NOT need to be registered for the conference to vote and each person can vote for up to 10 pitches. Just click on the pitch titles below to get started:

Vote for BlissMakes + my DIY Leather Statement Earrings Workshop

One of the best things about Alt is how everyone wears their most inspired looks and it’s a creative free for all! We love it, and want to show how to turn that inspiration into a unique set of leather statement earrings!

Kristin is an expert at hosting DIY workshops. She teaches everything from macrame and block printing to soap making in Las Vegas. One of my DIY claims to fame are my clay terrazzo earrings and you know I love dreaming up new statement pieces. Together we’ll walk attendees through each step so you not only come away from the workshop with a new set of earrings, but will have the know-how to keep creating after Alt!

Vote for Spatial Dwellings + my Fabric of the Imagination Backdrop Installation

Cristina and I are no strangers to collaborations- she’s my partner in crime in getting the MIC started! Together we’re pitching “Fabric of the Imagination”- a colorful, interactive backdrop. We envision layered pieces of large, dyed strips of fabric in a Palm Springs approved color palette cascading down so attendees can interact with color (and, of course, get those quintessential Alt selfies).

Thank you all so much for your support and building this corner of creative community, and we hope to see you at Alt!

Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my favorite parts from the #haileyhome condo. There Michael had his desk shoved in the corner of our small bedroom. As much as I wanted a light and airy feel, the desk always felt unintentionally “floaty”. With just paint and shelves, his desk went from an afterthought to a defined workspace with it’s own voice that felt distinct yet still a part of the room.

In our current house, I’m looking back at this project since next on my list will be Michael’s office! Michael inspired me with his 5 year anniversary gift to me (a nice furniture piece- he definitely knows me ☺️) so my gift to him will be wood shelves for his new office, plus a little space makeover.

Excited to take on a small project while the kitchen reno is underway. It’ll feel nice to feel project progress somewhere and get hands on for the first time since Cade arrived ☺️

It’s worth the space it takes up though. Capturing his growth and personality feels like the greatest privilege. I can’t believe there were only 3 weeks between his newborn and 1 month photos 🥲

I’ll take any and all inducing tips 😅

I’ve been auditioning different rooms around the new house for my studio space. Some have great storage, some have better natural light, but NONE have over headlight lighting. I didn’t think much of it until I tried crafting after work and realized, dang, I really can’t see anything 😅. I tried to make it work with different table lamps, photography lighting, even grow lights (spoiler: do not attempt unless you like being blinded). It wasn’t great. I figured I’d eventually get a proper crafting light, but wasn’t thrilled with the limited, and frankly ugly, options.

I bet you picked up on this from the photo, but I finally found THE solution. @cricut just released their Cricut Bright 360 task lamps and it’s everything I could have ever dreamed of! I’ve been putting this lamp through its paces for a few weeks with nesting DIYs and will have a full review on the blog soon!
