6 Trends To Try at the Stroke of Midnight

We’re trying something a little different for 2018; guest writers! Today, Kacey Bradley of The Drifter Collective is sharing her picks for trends to try for New Years. The Drifter Collective is an eclectic lifestyle blog that expresses various forms of style through the influence of culture and the world around us.

Along with writing for her blog, she frequently writes for sites like US Travel News, Thought Catalog, Style Me Pretty, Tripping.com and more. So let’s see what trends she’s excited to see for the New Year!

New Year’s Eve is an exciting time for many reasons — parties with friends, champagne toasts, midnight kisses, new beginnings, and of course, the excuse to dress up in an awesome outfit. It’s time to bust out the sequins, glitter, and over-the-top heels you probably spent way too much money on, so you can dance the night away in style.

If you’re still looking for an outfit you can ring in the new year with to look and feel your best, read on for ways to pull of this year’s biggest New Year’s Eve trends.

Dressed Up Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits have really gained popularity and show no sign of slowing down. They are a great alternative to a dress or skirt without dressing you down. If you haven’t tried one yet, New Year’s Eve may be the time because they are forecasted to be a popular trend this year.

Jumpsuits also allow for many versatile style options. Choose a bold solid color, and dress it up with great accessories and a hip jacket, or find a daring pattern that makes a statement. Pair with killer heels for a memorable look.

Midi Skirts

Many people think they can’t pull off a midi skirt because they aren’t tall enough, don’t have long legs, have too many curves — whatever the excuse, there is a midi skirt begging to prove you wrong.

Midi skirts have replaced miniskirts, so stop running from them! This classy option with a longer hemline and can elongate your legs and is just plain fun to dance around in. Try both the fitted and flared style to see which one makes you feel like toasting the night away.

Bold Makeup

New Year’s Eve means bold and eccentric looks that stand out in a crowd, with a strong focus on metallics and glitter this year. Swap your neutral eyeshadows for silver or golds hues, replace nude lips with glitter, or try a gold eyeliner to really make your eyes pop!

Think of New Years as a second Halloween as an excuse to use those untouched palettes.

new years outfit ideas necklaces

The Perfect Necklace for Your Neckline

Chokers have no doubt become a staple in many of our jewelry collections these last couple of years. After their long hiatus, it seems they’ve come back to stay. Chokers and other necklaces have always been a great accessory, but the power of a piece of jewelry can be lost if you wear the wrong necklace for your neckline.

If you wear a v-neck, choose a piece that will accentuate your elongated neckline like a medium or large necklace. Pair long necklaces with turtlenecks as well since your neckline is already covered. For strapless tops, a choker or collar necklace can fill the empty space between your neckline and top.

Over-The-Knee Boots

Over-the-knee-boots have become a staple in the past couple of years because they can be worn with just about anything. This New Year’s Eve, instantly make your look a bit dressier by adding a pair of these show-stoppers to your favorite little black dress, a pair of nice jeans or leather leggings or even a lace mini skirt with tights. You can dress them up or down — whatever suits your style!

new years outfit ideas head to toe velvet

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Anything and Everything Velvet

Velvet has really made a comeback this year and has become a staple in many wardrobes. Slip on a red or black velvet dress or jumpsuit paired with patterned heels and a sleek blazer. Or go all out in an all velvet suit, which has made its mark in the fashion world this holiday season. If you don’t feel comfortable in head to toe velvet, mix a velvet shirt or a velvet skirt with a leather or satin piece to create contrast.

New years are for new beginnings, so ring in 2018 with a new trend. Even if you assume midi skirts and metallic eyeshadow aren’t for you, you never really know until you try. So, make New Year’s Eve your excuse to be bold and daring and try one of the above fashion trends. You never know, jumpsuits may become your new thing!

Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my Look twice; it’s no split image, it’s my one of my favorite parts from the #haileyhome condo. There Michael had his desk shoved in the corner of our small bedroom. As much as I wanted a light and airy feel, the desk always felt unintentionally “floaty”. With just paint and shelves, his desk went from an afterthought to a defined workspace with it’s own voice that felt distinct yet still a part of the room.

In our current house, I’m looking back at this project since next on my list will be Michael’s office! Michael inspired me with his 5 year anniversary gift to me (a nice furniture piece- he definitely knows me ☺️) so my gift to him will be wood shelves for his new office, plus a little space makeover.

Excited to take on a small project while the kitchen reno is underway. It’ll feel nice to feel project progress somewhere and get hands on for the first time since Cade arrived ☺️

It’s worth the space it takes up though. Capturing his growth and personality feels like the greatest privilege. I can’t believe there were only 3 weeks between his newborn and 1 month photos 🥲

I’ve been auditioning different rooms around the new house for my studio space. Some have great storage, some have better natural light, but NONE have over headlight lighting. I didn’t think much of it until I tried crafting after work and realized, dang, I really can’t see anything 😅. I tried to make it work with different table lamps, photography lighting, even grow lights (spoiler: do not attempt unless you like being blinded). It wasn’t great. I figured I’d eventually get a proper crafting light, but wasn’t thrilled with the limited, and frankly ugly, options.

I bet you picked up on this from the photo, but I finally found THE solution. @cricut just released their Cricut Bright 360 task lamps and it’s everything I could have ever dreamed of! I’ve been putting this lamp through its paces for a few weeks with nesting DIYs and will have a full review on the blog soon!
