I’ve got a quick & easy DIY for you guys this week as you start holiday decorating! This came together when I had leftover evergreen boughs from last week’s velvet mules DIY and just stuck them in vases for safe keeping. I really like the look of the draping evergreen and the organic, branch lines and thought it looked like a modern Ikebana arrangement. All in all, it took about 2 minutes to fill every vase and now we get a little breeze of evergreen scent throughout our home.
I picked up these “seasonal vase filler” branches for ~$3 at Trader Joe’s, but if you live in a colder climate, you might be able to forage yours. As always, you can snag free evergreen branches at most tree trimming places.
You’ll Need
wide based/heavy vase
evergreen branches
branches
sharp shears
water
- Fill your vase with cool water to make it nice and steady.
- Trim the evergreen & branches at a 45º angle to help them take up water.
- Add your dramatic, draping evergreen branch(es).
- Insert the branch through the evergreen bunch.
I love the short, flared vase (anyone recognize which post it’s from?) for highlighting the two contrasting angles & materials but equally love the taller, skinnier vase for emphasizing the branches’ height. Which version is your favorite?
